Street Cricket....our nation's religion!

That was a nice shot...see the concentration in the chaps eyes!

Wow what a good position to play the shot

This chap reminded me of Jayasuriya (the cap and the fact that he is a left handed batsman)

Nice shot...

Toss - 'Plain side' is the call - look at the bat that is in the air - tossed!

Being a saturday evening - was a bit curious about the evening's plans and was caught up in my world of thoughts. And when I opened the window of my room, saw a group of young chaps standing closely and discussing something very seriously. I was wondering what these guys were upto. And suddenly a guy from a distance came running with a cricket bat in hand - now I understood - a cricket match in the cards....but in this small road?? I have played cricket all through my school days - in the street - in the local grounds - practice nets - tournaments everywhere....but the street they had chose i.e., the one in front of my house was quite small to play and more importantly there were quite a few cars that were parked nearby! The very first thought that struck me when I saw them seriously discussing about teams was about our car that was parked very near to the place they were right now standing! Now I remember that aunt whose house was right in front of the 'kings' ground (where we used to play daily after school was over)...who was always worried about us playing cricket in the road - she claimed, our tennis ball would break her grill gates!! but now - this is a car and the probability of it getting hit by the ball is more - i told to myself and the first thing i did was to go and park my car somewhere else! There were other cars too in the visinity but no one cared about that and when I returned home warned the guys to be careful with the shots as there were cars all around - they accepted with a smile - one guy saying - dont worry uncle (uncle - me?? Oh no...) we wont play big shots......I asked them to take care and left the place without disturbing them more...

Then I came into my house and this being a saturday evening did not have the mood to do anything related to work! Just peeped out of the window to see what the guys were doing - they had again formed a group and were discussing something seriously! And then came the Toss - one fellow threw up the cricket bat and captain of one team gave his call - Plain was the call and he won the toss and elected to bat. I was watching them play - they were quite enthusiastic about the game - nothing has actually changed.....they reminded me of me and my friends during our young age - ditto....nothing much has really changed. There were those scoldings for the mis-fields and all kinds of wiered reasons for the missed catches and run outs.....enjoyment after wickets...everything is still the same - I thought to myself! I wasn't involved with the game much though - then I thought of picking up my camera and make a few photos of them play....it was quite interesting to capture the moments....but all I did was make images of them play - through my window!

Who knows - there can be a future Tendulkar in the crowd, a future Dravid...or someone even better than them....who knows! I always wonder how Cricket, Movies and Politics influence our people....actors/actresses and cricket players are almost considered and cared about as if they belonged to our own families....Cricket is played in almost every street in every city - town and village in every state of this country -- wow -- what makes this game so very popular - I still wonder! It was then this wiered thought struck me - I played cricket from my class 4 (atleast i remember me playing cricket when I was in class 4 in Hosur...mayb I would have started even before that)....I have played for my school and almost all evenings - I repeat - almost ALL evenings (in roads) after school - right from my fifth standard till tenth! I still remember myself and my friends assigning some popular player's name to ourselves and maintaining the daily scores we make in a sheet of paper and even analyse them after the game n all.....so that obviously says how much interested I was in Cricket, also my friends. But today, no one of us play cricket, and we dont even think of doing that. Its all the story of the past.....there are millions of people in this country like me and my friends....I was just thinking.....maybe after a few years even these guys would be grown up and maybe they wont even touch the cricket bat.....who knows...a Sachin Tendulkar may go un-identified......who knows!

By the time I was thinking all these, the guys had finished the game and already were discussing about the results of the game - the catches - the boundaries etc....and in the meantime I got a call from one of my friends calling me out.....so that is the end of the episode.

I was thinking about the whole thing till I reached my friends place and other things took over after I reached....... :-)

12 Angry Men and Me!!

Watched '12 Angry Men' (1957) the day before yesterday night - infact in the early hours of yesterday! I guess, I really loved the movie! I was just wondering how come I missed this film when we were chasing around for watching good movies during my college days....the movie, I should say was excellent! It was definately NOT a typical movie....the WHOLE movie takes place in just a SINGLE ROOM!! Just 12 people - interacting - No heroin, No Romance, No Action - nothing - but still the movie was very gripping....was really interesting...WOW....I just cant help wondering!!! The characterization of the 12 men and the interaction between them (the dialogues) gave the movie a completely different dimension that kept the movie going and should I mention the performance of the actors - Excellent!

The movie is all about a jury of 12 members deciding on a murder case to give their verdict if the 18 year old boy (accused) is Guilty or Not. The two important conditions in front of them are that, the decision they make should be unanimous and if they find the accused to be guilty, he will be executed, as the case is of a planned murder. The movie basically shows the different perspectives of different men with the same facts in place.....and yes the movie has its list of flaws but it is next to impossible to make a flaw-less movie....

The movie again made me re-think.....yeah - making a movie is fun and challenging and I am convinced that I have the talent to make one and Cinema is my passion even if I wantedly ignore it - that is what I was doing all this time - was wantedly ignoring even watching movies....that was because, I guess I was getting obsessive when it comes to making movies or even talking or dreaming of making one.....

okey....guess its enough for now......feeling like dreaming of THAVAM....did I tell u - thats the title of the script I am working on now......will catch u soon....Have a GREAT day......
